IR/UV Line Scanner
Dual-channel infrared and ultraviolet line

The OPTIMARE IR/UV Line Scanner is a dual-channel imaging sensor that simultaneously acquires infrared and ultraviolet imagery. It is the primary sensor for oil spill classification, providing thermal contrast and UV fluorescence data that allow operators to distinguish oil types and estimate spill volumes.

System overview

Dual-channel imaging for oil spill classification

The IR/UV Line Scanner acquires simultaneous infrared and ultraviolet imagery in a single push-broom scan. The infrared channel maps thermal contrast — distinguishing oil films from clean water by their different emissivity. The UV channel detects fluorescence from petroleum products, enabling oil type classification. Together the two channels give operators the data needed to estimate spill extent, classify oil type, and document the scene for legal and environmental reporting. All imagery is geo-referenced and integrated into the MEDUSA® display.

Capabilities

What the IR/UV Line Scanner does

Oil type classification

UV fluorescence distinguishes petroleum products from biogenic films and clean water.

Thermal mapping

IR channel maps sea surface temperature and thermal contrast across the swath.

Simultaneous dual-channel

IR and UV data are acquired in the same pass, ensuring spatial co-registration.

Spill extent estimation

Geo-referenced imagery supports area calculation and volume estimation.

Legal documentation

Calibrated imagery provides evidence-grade documentation for enforcement.

MEDUSA® integration

Imagery streams directly into the MEDUSA® operator console for real-time display.
